One thing that I’m finding while freelancing is that it is always on my mind. I have listened to a number of other freelancers go on about this problem and I’m starting to experience it myself. Back when I was working at the grocery store (I’m gonna come back to this example often) there may have been times that were stressful. When we were really busy or there was some problem, I would be stressed out. However as soon as I clocked out, all of that stress went away. I didn’t worry about it anymore, I didn’t even think about work. With freelancing this is not the case, there is no clocking out. Sure there are times when I’m not “working”, I’m not actually working on a project, but I’m still thinking about it. When I’m stressed about a project, I’m stressed about it all the time, it is always on my mind. I can’t just clock out and not think about it.
The best way to deal with this, and what I need to work on, is to schedule time for work and only doing work during that time. The rest of the time you find something else to do. This way work is not on your mind all the time, it lets you “clock out”.
