Productivity is everything theses days and the term workflow comes up a lot. Every one has their own way of doing things -their own way of getting things done. I found this site, where they interviewed designers about their workflow. I found it interesting to see how they worked, and what they used to keep on task. So I thought I would share my workflow with you.
My Normal routine:
When I get a new project from a client, I usually start by brainstorming ideas on my whiteboard if I am having trouble coming up with something, I will look to CSS galleries for inspiration. I may even start creating a concept on the whiteboard. Once I have a solid idea, I use Fireworks to create a concept of it. Once the design is approved I start coding in jEdit. I normally follow this idea of starting on paper (or whiteboard) then moving to a digital concept, and then coding and testing it.
Things I need when designing:
I need music playing, I almost always have iTunes on playing a rather wide verity of music. I also look at CSS galleries or photo galleries for inspiration. As far as task management, I use email, and Scrybe to stay organized and on top of things.
Things that distract me:
There are way too many things that interupt my work. Twitter, IM, Digg, RSS feeds, podcasts, iJustine, to name a few.
One thing that I can say works really well is having a whiteboard. It is a great way to get ideas down, and make quick notes, and todos. I have also found that using a bunch of apps and programs to try and stay organized just does not work. I never end up sticking to it and using them. So find out what works for you and go with it, thats the best advice I can give.
